Born and raised in Muncie, Indiana. Mark McCoy grew up attending Delta High School and graduating in 1990. McCoy played football and wrestled during high school. Delta High School was a powerhouse in wrestling in the 1980's, winning state championships from 1980 through 1985. During his high school years McCoy became interested in fighting. He was always the big kid that people wanted to pick on when he was younger. He remembered his father telling him if he did not stick up for himself, he would get it when he came home. So McCoy quit letting people walk all over him. He realized that he was a good street fighter and began to fight all the time during his senior year. He did not lose. He would win all the fights that he got into. He was a good kid that just discovered that if he stood up for himself, people would leave him alone.

After high school, McCoy attended Vincennes University in Vincennes, Indiana. McCoy majored in Criminal Justice. During his year there, he started wrestling in a league and preparing to wrestle in the yearly tournament. A week before the tournament, he was wrestling and broke two of his ribs. He decided to go back home to Muncie and enroll in Ball State University. He was still majoring in Criminal Justice and wanted to become a police officer. He was living on campus and meeting new friends. McCoy met a man named Gary Myers. He was interested in McCoy coming to wrestle in a Pro Wrestling Organization that he was putting together. McCoy decided that he would try it and see what it was about. He enjoyed the short time that he was wrestling. He wrestled under the name the "Slash" and he was part of a tag team called "The Terminators". To this day, McCoy is glad to call Gary "Iron Bear" Myers his friend.

He has two beautiful daughters named Konnor and Montanna. His daughters are involved in softball, basketball and volleyball. McCoy enjoys watching his children being competitive.

In 1996, McCoy began going to local tough man contests. He was interested in testing his skills in the ring. McCoy started training and getting into better condition. He entered his first competition and fought twice that night. His first fight was a first round TKO. He then had to fight a good friend of his in the finals. He had actually been training with his friend. He knew he might have to fight his friend at some time. The fight went into the second round with him losing. McCoy then fought at another tough man contest and won his first fight by winning a three round major decision over a guy that was a Black Belt in Karate and Judo. His second fight of the evening was a thriller, raising the crowd to their feet, everyone watching him knock the guy out in stunning fashion in the first round. McCoy walked out as a champion that night with a fight record of 3-1.

He began working as a Correctional Officer in a state maximum-security prison in 1996. He was trained on the Cell Extraction Team, Weapons Team and First Responders. He was point man on the Cell Extraction Team. McCoy got the biggest rush of his life doing the cell extractions, knowing the danger of the situation.

McCoy started attending UFC fights in Las Vegas in 2001. He was hooked from the first fight of the night. He recently was in attendance at UFC 68 in Columbus Ohio to witness the largest MMA event to ever be held in North America. It was the best fighting event that he had ever been to. He witnessed his best friend Jason Gilliam; make his UFC debut that night as well.

McCoy is a huge fan of Mixed Martial Arts. He has attended many fighting events throughout the country. He his affiliated with Team Wolf Pack, located out of Muncie Indiana. He is also good friends with Chas Bowling, who is the Mid-West promoter for KOTC. Bowling is also the fight promoter for Extreme Combat Challenge events in Indiana. With his knowledge of Mixed Martial Arts and the personal friendships that he has, McCoy plans on taking UFN to the next level.
